クラムボンの舟 / C's ark

2011年8月、震災後の石巻を訪れました。
津波のあとの海岸線に積み上げられた廃車の壁は、亡くなった方々が身体を寄せ合って作った防波堤のようにみえ、この土地の生き残った人々を守っているようでした。
一方、この地域では故人の魂は海に還っていくと言われており、生者は死者を想い、お盆に藁で編んだ盆舟を海に流す風習が存在します。
この土地の人々の相互の祈りと、その媒体としての海を形にしたいと思い制作しました。

When I visited Ishinomaki five months after the 3.11 disaster, I faced a wall of abandoned cars which piled up on the shoreline after the tsunami.z
It looked like a breakwater which built by the victims huddled together, and they seemed to protect people who survive.
On the other hand, people hold an annual event to float down tray boats made of straw into the sea, due to the folk tale that departed souls return to the sea.
I formed the mutual praying between the livings and the deads of this land, and expressed the sea as a medium for their prayers.
